The American Dream
Nearly everyone who currently resides in US came here dreaming of a new life here, different from that one in their home country. It might not be this particular generation, it could have been their parents or their grandparents, either way everyone had a reason to come to this country, and everybody had their own American dream. If you go asking around what people appreciate the most about the life in the USA everyone would have different answer, something that would matter to this person the most.
For me in particular, the American dream is the opportunities this country provides for people
Opportunities are just waiting there for you to grab them and work hard in order to be able to use them to the fullest. The opportunities are laid out there for you and then it is only up to you to make the right choices and decisions. I just have to be a hardworking person in order to make a use of the opportunities provided. The example I would like to give is a little cliché but is perfect to make my point clear. The current president of the United States of America, Barak Obama, had nothing but his determination to succeed and hard work in order to get where he is. His parents came from Kenya with no ties or strings to pull to get their kids through to better opportunities. Obama’s dedication brought him to his aim and no one and nothing could prevent him from reaching his goals. I believe that the president gave a good example of the opportunities well used.
I am not saying that it will be the same amount of work and persistence for everyone
People have different situations and conditions of life and some of them will have to work a little less while some will have to work a lot more. The person from the ghetto will have to work a lot more to overcome the conditions he or she lives in. The education in those schools is not as good as in the rest of the schools as no one puts much faith into the success of those kids, which is additional obstacle to overcome. I love the saying “the sky is your limit”; those kids from ghetto schools can educate themselves, reed more books; Internet these days offer nearly unlimited opportunities. One can find tutorials, lectures books, apply to schools, find scholarships and grants. The only thing people need to do is work hard and be determined to reach the opportunities they aim for. In the end all that hard work and efforts will be rewarded and even if one don’ reach his or her initial goal there is always a possibility to find some additional opportunities where the work will pay off.
To conclude, I would like to say that for me as a young individual there in nothing more important than opportunities. Opportunities to grow, opportunities to succeed and opportunities to become the person I want to be. The best part about this that no one else has influence on the course of my life, there is only one person that has power over my success and my future and this person is me. And at the same time I will have no one to blame and no one to be angry at, as it is me who is responsible for pursing my dreams and grabbing the opportunities that come my way.
